Favorites of 2016: Hair Products

hair-favorites-of-2016-finalYAY to my first post of 2017!

Today’s post will focus on my favorite hair products of 2016. I’m the type that likes a low maintenance mane so you’ll usually find me wearing it down and wavy or scooped up with a pen. My visits to the salon are usually for a routine trim or a subtle color change, nothing too adventurous. My sense of adventure comes in when experimenting with new products. This past year, I’ve discovered some new products and continued using some all-time favorites. Keep reading to find out what products and why they made the list of 2016.

Best Shampoo & Conditioner: Oribe’s Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner, I’ve raved about these two in an earlier post in 2016, and a year later, these are still my go-to products. The condition of my hair has dramatically improved and I love the shine and moisturize it provides my long locks. Although this product is pricey, it is worth every penny. Remember, a little goes a long way.

Best Clarifying Shampoo: Shikai’s Tea Tree shampoo is a personal favorite and would use it more regularly if I didn’t have my hair balayaged. It thoroughly cleans and removes product build up leaving your hair extremely shiny and healthy. The tea tree oil provides the scalp with a cooling refreshing sensation each time you wash. The best news is that it’s fully organic and you can get it for under $10 at your nearest natural market.

Best Dry Shampoo: Batiste Dry Shampoo. I wash my hair about my 2-3 times a week so this product helps keep my hair feeling fresh in between washes. It revives dirty, dull hair by absorbing excess oil. You can find this product for under $10 at your nearest Ulta in a variety of scents. I use ‘Refresh’.

Best Leave-In: It’s A 10. No really, it is!!! I’ve used this off and on since my late teens. It’s a staple product and a must-have in my hair regimen. I spray it directly onto my palms and work it through towel dried-hair, it provides moisturize, shine, and helps detangle my  hair.

Best Styling Product for Volume and Texture: Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray. This was actually a product that my stylist (Kyle ♥) at Gene Juarez recommended for my husband. I had mentioned to him that my husband had incredibly soft and fine hair (chinchilla-like) and couldn’t really get his hair to cooperate when styling. Not only is my husband hooked on this product but I have to say that even though I have coarse voluminous hair, it gives me that instant va va voom, fresh-off-the-beach look. This miracle in a bottle comes with a hefty price tag of $44 so try using it conservatively, again, a little goes a long way.

Best Heat Styling Product: AG Firewall Smooth Flat Iron SprayWhat I like about this product is that it’s lightweight and easy to use. I like to spray it evenly on the strands I’m wishing to flat iron or to provide my hair with some extra shine in between styles. See how I use this in my “Loose Waves Tutorial“.

Best Flat Iron EVER!!: Gama CP1 Ceramic Straightener. This Italian made flat iron is my absolute favorite. I’ve tried various brands from CHI, Ghd, to Babyliss and I’ve always gone back to this one because it gives me the option between sleek hair and beautiful waves (see video here of how I use this to curl my hair). I’ve owned this particular iron since 2009 and it has withstood the ultimate test of time, survived various drops, and many vacation trips. My iron was purchased at Gene Juarez, unfortunately they don’t carry this brand anymore but you can now find it on Amazon
